About

History

MUW has a history of being able to adjust and adapt to the times. The Industrial Institute and College changed its name to Mississippi State College for Women in 1920, just before newly enfranchised II & C graduates elected its previous president Henry Whitfield governor of Mississippi.

Education

Our students claim that The W is unique in some way. You might assume they’re referring to things like our placement among the finest Southern public master’s universities, our tiny class sizes, or the fact that U.S. News & World Report and Washington Monthly rated us as the best value school. Yes, those are crucial. However, students claim that our community’s warmth, intellectual curiosity, and sense of reality offer their education that extra something. They feel at ease because of it.

Research

Research, scholarship, and innovation are valued at MUW. MUW fosters research, scholarship, and innovation even though it is primarily a teaching institution. This helps faculty and staff further their professional growth and better educate students.

Career

The W’s Office of Career Services works to provide a setting that will improve academic experiences and support alumni, teachers, staff, and students with their academic and professional aspirations.

By offering programs, services, resources, and advocacy for the needs and interests of all students at Mississippi University for Women, the office supports both the Division of Student Affairs and the academic purpose of Mississippi University for Women.
