The Ministry of Social Development has announced that recipients of the COVID-19 Social Relief in Distress (SRD) grant must re-apply for the assistance as it will now be paid under a new legislative framework

The state of national disaster, facilitated by the SRD grant, ended in April 2022. However, the Ministry of Social Development has been working on a regulatory framework for the payment of the grant since President Cyril Ramaphosa announced the grant extension.

The new legislative framework for the SASSA R350 scholarship includes additional qualification and assessment criteria, which is why recipients must reapply if they have previously received assistance.

“Fortunately, the entire application system remains a purely digital process, allowing for fast access and delivery times,” the department said. SASSA Grant Application Status

WHAT SHOULD KNOW ABOUT REAPPLYING:

Applications open at 12:00 on Saturday, 23 April.

Applications can be made via the SASSA SRD website – https://srd.sassa.gov.za.

Further application channels will be made available in due course.

The department said applicants will be considered for the SASSA R350 grant from the month in which the application is made and it will be validated every month.

“This means that all applications lodged in April will be considered as from April 2022.”
