The University of Milan was established in 1924 by merging the Accademia Scientifico-Letteraria (Scientific-Literary Academy), which had been operating since 1861, and the Istituti Clinici di Perfezionamento (Clinical Specialization Institutes), which had been founded in 1906. These two institutions had a long history of offering medical, scientific, and humanities-related studies.

Student assistance

The University of Milan works to provide the finest conditions for university life by providing a welcome desk for international students, faculty tutors, a psychological counseling service, aid for impaired students, and scholarships for worthy students.
This also holds true for the dining hall and lodging services, athletic events, and projects that students and their organizations directly organize.
Students who are studying abroad or who hold a foreign degree can email the Welcome Desk directly at international.students@unimi.it.

The information service, Infostudenti, which may be accessed on the University’s website, requires all other students to log in.

housing solutions

Based on standards of monetary need and academic merit, the university offers a dining hall and housing services.

It has 400 enrolled students, roughly. Beds, in residence halls and homes nearby the university’s buildings. There are computer stations and amusement areas in the lodging.

libraries’ offerings

A network of 22 libraries at the University of Milan share a common OPAC (Online Public Access Catalogue), which is available around-the-clock.

There are almost two million bibliographic records in the catalog that cover audiovisual content, printed and electronic magazines, and both old and new books.
The Digital Library provides 236 databases, 370.129 e-books, and 66.165 e-journals.

ICT solutions

Wi-Fi access A global Wi-Fi alliance of universities and research facilities is called Eduroam.

Eduroam offers protected services that may be quickly and easily accessible from any laptop, smartphone, or tablet to staff, academics, students, and external users from federated universities.

All Unimi web services, including the Digital Library, are accessible to users.

Student Life

College life

The departments of the university are located in both contemporary structures in the neighborhoods of via Noto and Sesto S. Giovanni as well as significant historic structures in the Città Studi district of Milan.

Among the palazzos that house the university’s facilities are the 17th-century Sant’Alessandro College ordered by the Arcimboldi family, the 18th-century Palazzo Greppi designed by Giuseppe Piermarini, and the old Ca’ Granda, a monumental complex from the 15th century in the heart of the historical city center.

sporting events

The inter-university sport association, CUS, has specific agreements with a number of gyms and sporting venues, allowing students and university employees who possess a green or blue card to participate in sports at a discounted rate.

College clubs

In order to ensure that there are a variety of viewpoints and that the needs of students are understood in the academic setting, the university encourages the establishment of cultural and political organisations by providing equal chances in terms of space and resources.

There are cultural associations that students can simply join to share their thoughts and experiences, as well as student organizations with various political affiliations that represent students in the Academic Senate.
