St. Augustine University of Tanzania (SAUT) was established in 1998. It is the successor of the Nyegezi Social Training Institute (NSTI) founded in 1960 by the Catholic White Fathers (currently known as the Missionaries of Africa). This was under the initiative of Bishop Joseph Blomjous of the Mwanza Diocese.
SAUT Entry Requirements 2022-2023
The University extends to over 600 acres in the Nyegezi- Malimbe area 10 km south of Mwanza City. It lies 4 km off the Mwanza- Shinyanga road on the shores of Lake Victoria. As part of Tanzania’s central highlands (1140 m above the sea level), the area to the south of Lake Victoria is noted for its moderate temperatures. Mwanza can be reached from other parts of Tanzania and East Africa by train, air, ferry and highways.

- The minimum entry requirements set by TCU and NACTE for admission to higher education institutions are as follows:
For Form VI applicants who have completed their studies at A-level prior to 2014, the minimum entry qualification is two major passes (two E) with a total of 2.0 points; - For Form six applicants who have completed their studies at A-level from 2014 onwards, their minimum qualification for admission is two major passes (two D grades) with a total of 2.0 points;

- For applicants with an RPL qualification, the minimum qualification is “B” obtained from the RPL exam;
- For Diploma applicants, the minimum entry qualification is at least four O-level passes (D and above) or NVA Third-level passes with less than four O-level passes or equivalent foreign qualifications as defined by NECTA or VETA;

Postgraduate Admission Requirements
Postgraduate Diploma
- Applicants holding a minimum of Second Class in any Advanced Diploma in relevant studies for a minimum period of three years, on a full basis from a recognized institution of higher education.
- Holders of a first university degree in related fields with a minimum of a second class degree.
SAUT Entry Requirements 2022-2023
Master Degree
- First university degree holders in related fields with a minimum of lower second class.
- For Law, Holders of Bachelor of Laws Degree (LL.B) from any institution of higher learning recognized by the Tanzania Commission for Universities (TCU) with a G.P.A of at least 3.5.
- Depending on the Course of interest because Some Programmes require a minimum of 3.5 GPA
Doctor of Philosophy (PhD) (With Thesis)
PhD in Law
- Master of Laws from a recognized university, with a GPA of at least 3.5 at the Master’s level.
- The applicant must have conducted advanced research methodology at the master’s level. However, shortcomings in research methodology skills can be addressed while undertaking a PhD study.
SAUT Entry Requirements 2022-2023
PhD in Mass Communication
- The candidate must meet the general regulations for admission to PhD programs offered by SAUT.
- Hold a master’s degree in communication or similar fields such as sociology or political science from recognized institutions of higher education with a cumulative bachelor’s and master’s grade point average close to 4.0.
- Some previous field research experience as a research assistant or in a master’s thesis.
- Submit a twenty to thirty-page essay on the proposed area of the thesis specialization that demonstrates a mature understanding of theory, knowledge of current research, and ability to evaluate current methodologies in this area of research.
- English language proficiency.
- Preference will be given to candidates who have teaching experience in a university context and who have done some academic research and publications.
