Minister of Education, Science and Technology Prof. Adolf Mkenda has encouraged higher education loan applicants for the year 2022/2023 to read and adhere to the ‘Lending Guidelines for 2022/2023’ in order to submit applications correctly.

Prof. Mkenda made the remarks at a brief launch of the guide held at HESLB offices in Dar es Salaam and attended by the Deputy Permanent Secretary, Ministry of Education, Science and Technology Prof. James Mdoe, Chairman of the HESLB Board of Directors Prof. Hamisi Dihenga and other HESLB stakeholders.

Prof. Mkenda said: “From today (Tuesday, July 12), this guide will be available on the HESLB website (www.heslb.go.tz) and the Ministry’s website (www.moe.go.tz) in both Kiswahili and English… and to give applicants the opportunity to read it. The online loan application window is expected to open on July 19 to September 30, 2022, ”he said.

“The loan application window for the 2022/2023 academic year will be open for 70 days from July 19 to September 30 this year, so we urge applicant students to read the guide before applying for a loan as it specifies the qualifications, criteria and procedure for applying. loan, ”said Prof. Mkenda.

Speaking at the event, the Deputy Permanent Secretary, Ministry of Education, Science and Technology, Prof. James Mdoe has reminded loan applicants to adhere to the instructions contained in the manual to overcome the challenges that arise for applicants.

“Experience shows that applicant students have not been adhering to the procedures when applying. We urge you to adhere to the guidelines. During the application window there have been many challenges facing applicants ”, said Prof. Mdoe.

HESLB CEO Abdul-Razaq Badru said every year in July, HESLB begins receiving loan applications for the following academic year where the guide provides detailed information on the qualifications and procedures for lending for the year.

“The manual has been finalized and approved by the Board of Directors. Starting next week, we will start running public education programs through radio, television, meetings at JKT Camps and social media, ”said Badru.

In the academic year 2022/2023, the Government has allocated TZS 573 billion for loans and scholarships for higher education students in the country.

To apply for loan (HESLB) Just follow all steps as shown below:

Guidelines for Loans Issuance for 2022/2023’ Academic Year available in www.heslb.go.tz before you start application. Make sure you provide TRUE information.

General Eligibility criteria require an applicant to meet the following conditions: –

i) Must be from Tanzania;

(ii) Must have used the Online Loan Application and Management System (OLAMS) to apply for a loan;

(iii) Must have received full-time admission to a recognized higher education institution;

(iv) For students accepted to the Open University of Tanzania (OUT), eligible candidates will be taken into account for financial aid for tuition, books, and stationery; must not get funds for schooling from any other sources;

(vi) For applicants who are undergraduates, there must be no official or regular source of income from employment, in the public or private sector.

(vii) Must be enrolled full-time and have results or progress reports proving that they have passed the tests required to move on to the next year or stage of their studies;

(viii) A student loan recipient who wants to reapply for a loan after leaving one program, college, or university must pay back at least 25% of the previous loan amount before doing so. Payment of 25% of the already issued loan does not ensure allocation of additional loans.
