The Open University of Tanzania (OUT) is a public distance learning university in Tanzania. It was established by Parliament Act No. 17 of 1992. It is a one-stop institution that offers certificate, diploma and degree courses through distance learning. It is headquartered in Dar es Salaam, Tanzania, and conducts its operations through 30 regional centers and 70 study centres. The university has a capacity of approximately 70,000 local and international students.

1. Completed A Level studies before 2014

Two principal passes with a total of 4.0 points in Two Subjects
defining the admission into the respective programme
B = 4; C= 3; D = 2; E = 1; S = 0.5)

2. Completed A Level studies in 2014 and 2015

Two principal passes (‘C’
Two Subjects defining the admission into the respective programme
(where A = 5; B+ = 4; B = 3; C= 2; D = 1; E = 0.5)

3. Completed A Level studies from 2016 onwards

Two principal passes with a total of 4.0 points in Two Subjects
defining the admission into the respective programme
B = 4; C= 3; D = 2; E = 1; S = 0.5)

4. Foundation Programme of the OUT

A GPA of 3.0
from three subjects in a respective cluster (Arts, Science and Business
Studies)
PLUS
An Advanced Certificate of Secondary Education Examination with
least 1.5
An Ordinary
least 2.0
NTA level 5

5. Bachelor degree award

Bachelor degree certificate, transcript, form six certificate or Diploma
PLUS At least four or less than four O

  • Two principal passes (‘C’ and above) with a total of 4.0 points from

    (where A = 5; B+ = 4; B = 3; C= 2; D = 1; E = 0.5)
  • Two principal passes with a total of 4.0 points in Two Subjects
    defining the admission into the respective programme
    B = 4; C= 3; D = 2; E = 1; S = 0.5)
  • A GPA of 3.0 accumulated from six core subjects and at least a
    from three subjects in a respective cluster (Arts, Science and Business
    Studies)
    PLUS
  • An Advanced Certificate of Secondary Education Examination with
    least 1.5 from two subjects OR
  • An Ordinary Diploma from the recognized institution with a
    least 2.0 OR
  • NTA level 5 /Professional Technician Level II Certificate.
  • Bachelor degree certificate, transcript, form six certificate or Diploma
  • At least four O-Level passes (“D”s and above) or NVA Level III with
    less than four O-Level Passes or equivalent foreign qualifications as
    translated by either NECTA or VETA.
