Job purpose:

  • Reporting to the Head of Business Banking, MI Analytics for Business Banking is responsible for providing focus on business direction by planning and driving financial performance, business management, performance management and detailing the MI operations of the BB business.
  • The role holder is also the main point of contact with other business functions and external auditors on performance-related issues and projects.
  • This requires the role holder to have regular contact with the Country Finance, Relationship Banking and BB Product teams to proactively identify and agree on performance factors.
  • Track, monitor, analyze and review progress against objectives and make recommendations to BB Head and the broader team members. The role holder is therefore expected to have extensive knowledge of BB products, deal structuring, financial planning, and believer in budget and performance discipline.

Key responsibilities and approximate time division

Directing business leadership 40%

  • The Head of Business Banking assists in the development of BB’s strategy by providing insightful strategic analysis of competitor activities, pricing trends, sensitivity, economic analysis, and other relevant macro-trend analysis.
  • Coordinates and compiles BB Bank’s financial budgets/plans (both STP and MTP) including analytical support for budget drivers and plan operations for specific BB business in coordination with budget owners.
  • BB Functional budgets are challenged and thus ensured that they are realistic and up-to-date and make recommendations regarding BB functional objectives to the BB Head.
  • Manages BB budgets and financial performance including income, cost and balance sheet flows highlighting material variances and reports regularly to Head of Business Banking with recommendations for timely strategic action.
  • Monitors market developments and builds relationships with product and relationship teams in designing strategic pricing initiatives and structures to drive financial performance.
  • Performs GAP analysis on client portfolios in coordination with the Relationship and Product teams and provides a recommendation report on potential business development and/or areas of expansion within existing BB portfolios and thus impact on client relationship plans.

Business Administration and Development MI 20%

  • Owns and coordinates the development and management of robust, relevant, timely and effective management information (MI), on occasion; Which leads the direction of BB’s business and performance improvement.
  • Supports functional and product managers in designing and managing business processes that reduce income leakage and assists in reviewing business processes for efficiency and cost effectiveness.
  • Manages and coordinates revenue collection and cost reduction operations including monitoring of auction interest reports and monitoring of overall pricing for BB products.
  • Reviews client refund claims with a recommendation for approval to the BB Head with a view to identifying, repairing and optimizing falls that entail refunds.
  • Recommend spending approvals to the BB Head. Coordinates all financial, commercial and performance matters with other business functions.
  • Manages and coordinates BB’s external financial audits to provide required information and respond to all audit inquiries raised by the external auditors. Follow up on audit results to ensure timely implementation of corrective actions.

Performance management 30%

  • The BB Head assists in aligning individual and collective goals to ensure that the agreed individual and collective professional development goals contribute adequately to the achievement of the overall financial goals and objectives of the BB business.
  • Manages performance monitoring and the process of tracking the progress of individuals, relationships, and product teams against PD plans, reporting to the BB Head and all other stakeholders. Work with colleagues to identify areas for improvement and review results regularly.
  • Coordinates the compilation of the monthly detailed BB performance package and the monthly performance dashboard periodic which provides interpretations to team members based on the compilation for transparency and objectivity in performance measurement, which is essential to endorse and motivate the team.
  • Structurally challenges monthly results and forecasts for BB’s business areas and financial reporting. Assist in defining value-added initiatives to improve performance.
  • Manages and coordinates monthly team performance meetings for department heads to review financial performance and strategic forecasting. Monitors and tracks agreed action points from these meetings to drive performance.

Team management 10%

  • Work closely with the Head of BB and BB Relationship and Product teams to drive and deliver performance across the BB business.
  • Train team members on how to proactively measure individual and group financial goals for PD professional development reflecting their feedback to gain acceptance for effective and efficient PD review and process improvement.
  • Manages performance team members. Guide and influence broader team members involved in MI’s operations in effective and efficient methodologies for data collection, processing, and analysis.
  • Promote teamwork in delivering performance by designing performance measurement processes that recognize performance at both individual and team levels.

  • Experience in and/or understanding of the B banking environment with a good understanding of BB products, deal structuring, pricing structures and relationship management.
  • Experience in financial and commercial analysis and management and general awareness of the Tanzanian economic landscape and how this affects BB’s business.
  • Graduation caliber with a Business University degree (preferably finance or accounting) with other relevant professional qualifications.
