UKZN Online Application ;- The University of KwaZulu-Natal (UKZN) is a public research university located in the province of KwaZulu-Natal, South Africa. It was formed in 2004 as a result of the merger between the University of Natal and the University of Durban-Westville.

UKZN Online Application

To apply online to the University of KwaZulu-Natal (UKZN) for the 2023 academic year, you can follow these steps:
  1. Visit the UKZN website at www.ukzn.ac.za.
  2. Click on the “Study” link in the top menu.
  3. Select the “Applications” option from the dropdown menu.
  4. Click on the “Online Application” link.
  5. Select the appropriate application category (e.g., undergraduate, postgraduate, etc.).
  6. Read through the information and instructions provided, and then click on the “Apply Now” button.
  7. Create a new user account by providing your email address and a password, and then click on the “Register” button.
  8. Log in to your new account, and then follow the prompts to complete and submit your online application.

N.B. Manual applications will be not be accepted and they will not be processed with an EXCEPTION for the following:
  • Change of campuses
  • Some postgraduate programmes (please enquire with the relevant Colleges and Schools)

For returning undergraduate students, students with a gap year, all local postgraduate applications and both undergraduate and postgraduate international applicants.
Please note that:
  • If you are currently registered and would like to change programmes, please use your existing student number when applying.
  • For all professional degrees, you cannot start a new degree in the second semester.
  • Change of address for returning students will only be done during registration.
Please remember to upload the following documents (where applicable)
  • Certified copy of your ID/passport.
  • Certified copy of your National Senior/Matric Certificate or O/A Levels or relevant school leaving qualification/certificate.
  • Proof from Universities South Africa (previously known as HESA), that you qualify for admission to degree studies at South Africa universities, if you are an international applicant. For more information, refer to the undergraduate prospectus
  • Certified copies of your degree certificate(s), academic record and certificate of conduct, if you attended other universities.
  • Proof of English proficiency for International applicants from non-English speaking countries.
  • South African Qualifications Authority (SAQA) evaluations if the previous qualification(s) was/were obtained at foreign universities (outside South Africa).
  • A research proposal/proposed title of the dissertation/thesis if you are applying for a Masters Degree or PhD.
  • A valid study visa to study in SA if you are an International applicant.
  • Before applying online please make sure that you have read the guidelines above.
  • Please ensure that you have the USAF/SAQA documents to be uploaded in order to complete your application.
  • Please ensure to use reference APPN (followed by your student number) when making application fee payment.
  • Please allow the system 24 hrs to 48 hrs to clear your payment.
  • South African first time undergraduate applicants applying to UKZN must apply via CAO at www.cao.ac.za

How to Check the UKZN Application Status?

To check your application status at the University of KwaZulu-Natal (UKZN), you can follow these steps:

  1. Visit the UKZN website at www.ukzn.ac.za.
  2. Click on the “Study” link in the top menu.
  3. Select the “Applications” option from the dropdown menu.
  4. Click on the “Check Application Status” link.
  5. Enter your application number and surname in the provided fields.
  6. Click on the “Submit” button to view your application status.

OR

The candidates were instructed to use the same log-in username and password they had used when submitting their applications in order to check their admission status and download their admission letter.

  • Visit https://caocheck.ukzn.ac.za/Start.aspx to access the UKZN status checker portal.
  • choose a year
  • Provide your CAO number and ID or passport number.
  • You can then see your admission status by clicking the “check” option.
  • Please visit the university admission site if you have received conditional or unconditional admission so that you can accept or reject the place that has been assigned to you.
