The Food and Nutrition Center of Tanzania (TFNC) is the source of the government’s Phase 1 policy to deal with the problem of malnutrition in the country. After the introduction of the Arusha Declaration of 1967, the position was to strengthen social services, particularly in rural areas. In 1968 the late former President Mwalimu JK Nyerere reiterated the importance of nutrition in the development of people and the nation as a whole. This was a major driver in the fight against malnutrition in the country. The Ministry of Health already has a feeding unit. The Ministry of Agriculture and Education has introduced nutrition into its units. By 1969, 27 districts in 16 districts had started their food units. This is a qualitative, cross-sectional, community-wide study that will explore dietary taboos and preferences among non-pregnant and non-lactating women aged 15–49 years in selected regions of mainland Tanzania. Job Vacancies in Tanzania at Tanzania Food and Nutrition Center Duties and Responsibilities: Data collectors will be responsible for collecting qualitative data using a voice recorder and writing and writing summaries in notebooks. The data collectors will report to the study coordinator on a daily basis. Generally they will be responsible for:- • Get training on how to conduct this study • Liaise with individuals for interviews at home or field site. • Adhere to standards of ethical conduct for research and the protection of individuals, including informed consent and maintaining confidentiality • Explaining the objectives and procedures of the survey to the interviewees. • Conduct in-depth interviews, focus group discussions or key informant interviews for each study protocol. • Identifying and reporting challenges in obtaining valid data. • Review interviews and data collection evidence and suggest improvements. • Meet with the supervisor daily to present the data collected and to discuss progress. • Attending debriefing meetings regularly as scheduled by the supervisor. • Spend the entire contract period collecting data and preparing a summary of results. • Interact with local officials and rural residents. They will treat all persons contacted under this survey with the utmost respect. • Enjoy the highest level of honesty and integrity. • Perform any other duties as stipulated by the supervisor. Essential Qualifications and Experience: • We are looking for highly qualified and experienced individuals who are willing to work with us on this research. Applicants must have the following qualifications: • Minimum of Bachelor of Science in Human Nutrition, Sociology, Social Work or related fields. A master’s degree in social sciences is an added advantage. • One year experience in data management and qualitative data collection using a recording device. • Fluency in English and Swahili. • Must have good interpersonal skills and the ability to work in a team environment, interacting with people from different cultural and social backgrounds and must be able to work with minimal supervision.
