Tanzania Institute of Accountancy (TIA) is one of the Technical Institutions in Tanzania and a Government Executive Agency under the Ministry of Finance and Planning that was established on 1st July 2002 by the Government Notice No. 489 of 1st November 2002 and officially launched on 24th January 2003 as per Act No. 30 of 1997 to provide:

  • education and conduct Research & Consultancy in the fields of Accountancy,
  • Procurement and Logistics Management,
  • Business Administration,
  • Human Resource Management,
  • Marketing & Public Relations,
  • Public Sector Accounting & Finance and other business related disciplines.

The Institute is accredited by the National Accreditation Council for Technical Education (NACTE) and its programmes are recognized by the National Board of Accountants and Auditors (NBAA), and the Procurement and Supplies Professionals and Technicians Board (PSPTB) for exemption in professional examinations.

TIA has Six Campuses strategically located in Dar es Salaam, Mbeya, Singida, Mtwara, Mwanza and Kigoma to be close to its customers countrywide. The Dar es Salaam Campus serves as the Institute´s headquarters.

For admission into programmes of study at the Tanzania Institute of Accountancy, TIA for any certificate, an applicant must have the following requirements for a successful admission.

Below is the TIA admission details 2021/2022 containing the necessary entry requirements for admission into the Tanzania Institute of Accountancy, TIA. Each college has its own requirements and prospective students are strongly advised to consult the admissions office for more information and advice on these requirements.

Basic Technician Certificate Programs (NTA Level 4) Minimum Entry Requirements:

  • At least four (4) passes (grade “D” or above) in the Certificate of Secondary Education (CSEE) excluding Religious Subjects or National Professional Award Tier 2 accompanied by at least two passes in the Ordinary Certificate of Secondary Education

Diploma Programs (NTA Level 5 and 6) Minimum Entry Requirements:

  • Basic Technician Certificate in related programs with at least four passes in Certificate of Secondary Education (CSEE) excluding religious subjects.
  • Advanced Certificate of Secondary Education (ACSEE) with at least one major pass and one minor certificate in relevant subjects except religious subjects.
  • National Professional Awards (NVA) Level 3 is accompanied by at least two CSEE scores excluding religious subjects.

Degree Programs (Three Academic Years) Minimum Entry Requirements

Form Six Qualifications 

  • Two major passes with a total of 0 points from two subjects where A = 5, B = 4, C = 3, D = 2, E = 1 (for candidates who completed Form Six before 2014 and from 2016 onwards)
  • Two major passes with a total of 0 points from two subjects where A = 5, B + = 4, B = 3, C = 2, D = 1 (for candidates who completed Form Six in 2014 and 2015)
  • Form VI applicants applying for the Bachelor of Accounting, Public Sector Accounting, Finance, Procurement and Logistics Management must have passed Mathematics at O-level or A-level. Religious subjects are not considered.

Equivalent qualifications

  • Ordinary Diploma (NTA Level 6) with at least 3.0 GPA,
  • Average grade of B for Diploma in Teacher Education,
  • Upper second class for non-NTA classified degrees,
  • Distinction in unclassified diplomas.
  • Average grade of B for health-related awards such as Clinical Medicine and
  • Average C for a Full Technician Certificate (FTC) where A = 5, B = 4, C = 3, and D = 2.
  • Recognition of Prior Learning Qualifications (RPL) with a grade of B+ where A = 75-100, B + = 65-74, B = 50-64, 40-49, D = 35-39, F = 0-38

In addition, the above qualifications must be accompanied by at least four O-level passes (Ds and above) or NVA LEVEL II/III with at least two O-level passes. Suitability of equivalent qualifications will be assessed by the Institute. Religious topics are not considered.

Postgraduate Programs: (1 academic year / 2 semesters) Minimum admission requirements:

  • Bachelor’s degree or Advanced Diploma in Accounting or Purchasing from any reputable institution or any related degree program.

Application forms can be obtained at any TIA Campus or in the TIA Website. Application fee of Tshs. 10,000/= have to be paid through NMB or CRDB banks or mobile networks like M-Pesa, Tigo Pesa, Airtel Money, Halo Pesa, TTCL Pesa and Ezy Pesa.

How much are hostel fees in Tanzania Institute of Accountancy?

450,000 per year for Dar es Salaam campus (Kurasini hostels) and 120,000 per year for Dar es Salaam campus (Kijichi hostels). TSHS. 250,000 for Mbeya and Singida campuses per year.
