In the academic year 2021/22, the government has allocated Sh570 billion to finance loans for 160,000 students, of whom 62,000 are first-year students and 98,000 are to continue their studies. Speaking to reporters yesterday, the Executive Director of the Higher Education Student Loans Council, Mr. Abdul Razzaq Badro, said that the council extended the loan application period by an additional 15 days from September 1 to September 15 to allow applicants registered in the system to complete their applications.

“We started receiving applications online on July 9 and until yesterday (Tuesday) the last day for applications, we had 91,445 applicants submitted, of which 12,252 were incomplete,”

Mr. Badru said. According to Pedro, the next step is to review the documents and information submitted by 79,193 applicants whose applications were completed according to the system.

“There are two groups; the 12,252 whose applications do not have attachments and are therefore incomplete and there are 79,193 applications with documents, we will now start checking for accuracy and after that we will check if they have been accepted and the eligible ones will get loans.”
